We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in Los Angeles as a Clinical Research Support Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical role in supporting our clinically-oriented research and program projects based in Malawi, Africa. You will provide direct oversight and support for ongoing and new projects being conducted under a large PEPFAR/USAID grant implemented by Partners in Hope, a Malawian NGO that has been partnered with UCLA since 2006. As our Clinical Research Support Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the success of our HIV care and treatment programs throughout Malawi. Your focus will be on improving HIV testing, linkage to care, initiation of antiretroviral therapy, and viral suppression. You will work closely with our faculty and staff in Lilongwe, Malawi, as well as our faculty based in Los Angeles, to build capacity among research team members and support the implementation of research projects during training and early start-up phases of projects. This is a highly collaborative role that requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a passion for global health and a commitment to improving the lives of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi. While travel to Malawi may be required approximately twice per year for extended periods, this is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact and contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS in one of the most underserved regions of the world. Salary: $29.41 - $58.14/hour

Required: * Willing and able to travel to sub-Saharan Africa up to two times per year for extended periods of time * Masters degree in Public Health, or similar degree (MPH, MPP, MSc, MSCR) * Experience with preparing and submitting IRB applications * Minimum years of 3 years recent experience working in international health research as a program or study coordinator * Proficiency with basic statistical analyses using Stata, including summary statistics, chi- square, t-tests, regression, graphing, and programming for data cleaning (must be able to independently perform these tasks) * Strong and highly professional and diplomatic communication skills (both written and verbal) to include interpersonal communication and email correspondence with key stakeholders and collaborators internationally and domestically * Exceptional writing skills necessary to prepare materials for scientific publications, public presentations, formal administrative reports, and other communications, often under severe time constraints * Ability to work highly independently, organize work (both electronically and paper files) with extreme attention to detail and accuracy; demonstrated skill in assessing timelines and coordinating numerous assignments and projects simultaneously under heavy and fluctuating workloads and conflicting deadlines * Knowledge and/or experience of and/or interest in global health and international medicine issues, such as (but not limited to) maternal and child health, pediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, tropical medicine, non-communicable diseases, poverty and nutrition, women’s health, mental health, etc. * Knowledge of research regulatory requirements * Proficient with Microsoft Office programs - able to work with data to create manuscript- quality tables and figures (bar graphs, pie charts); able to create PowerPoint presentations; able to convert abstracts to posters for conference poster presentations; able to do basic budgets using Excel * Proficiency with SurveyCTO, or a similar Open Data Kit software including the ability to independently program and perform data quality checks/data management functions * Willing and able to perform ‘Assistant’ level tasks - Doodle polls, scheduling meetings and conference calls, formatting manuscripts, referencing manuscripts using Endnote, data entry, QI on data, arranging travel (helping with booking flights, hotel, etc.), and coordinating purchases and vendor payments * Ability to work with data to create manuscript quality tables and figures (bar graphs, pie charts); able to create PowerPoint presentations; able to convert abstracts to posters for conference poster presentations * Solid ability to conduct web-based and library research to assist in the development, design, and implementation of research, including ability to use PubMed and other health science databases. Preferred: * Experience writing grant proposals * Experience working in a resource limited setting; culturally sensitive with experience and insights into decolonized and equitable global health partnerships * Experience working in HIV * Demonstrated expertise in protocol assessment, IRB submission and research trials budgeting * Experience working with UCLA faculty, administrators, and staff in an academic medical center, health care or university environment. * Proven ability to participate effectively in the planning and development of multidisciplinary, cross-departmental research programs and committees.
