Swim Team Coach Job at Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation
We're hiring a Head Coach for the Shrewsbury Sharks, a Summer Recreational Youth Team. Our coaches will be working with the other coaching staff to develop our team, oversee practices and meets. During the summer, our swimmers will have practice Monday-Friday mornings (between 7am and 9:30a), with 4 meets over the season, plus prelims and finals in July.
Leads and coaches the Shrewsbury Sharks Swim Team. Requires teaching of swim strokes in a fun and inviting learning environment to ensure a positive team experience. Builds strong relationships with participants and continually challenges them to the next level.
This is a contract position for the 2023 season (June-Mid July), the Head Coach role will be paid $2,500.00 for the season. Minimum Qualifications: One-year coaching experience, High School Diploma or GED
Major Duties & Responsibilities (Head Coach and Assistant Coach):
- Greets, acknowledges, engages and interacts with participants at all times.
- Creates an educational, safe and inviting experience for all participants.
- Initiates, develops and maintains positive relationships with participants.
- Quickly and efficiently responds to member questions, comments, and concerns.
- Provides a safe, clean and organized pool area.
- Delivers comments from the parents and swimmers to the Rec Supervisor.
- Attends all swim meets, prelims and finals.
- Maintains order and safety in swimming areas.
- Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to everyone.
Time Commitment (Head Coach and Assistant Coach):
- Daily Practice:Monday-Friday 7:00-9:15a (subject to change) at Shrewsbury Aquatic Center, Coach must arrive 30 minutes prior to practice start time and stay until the last child is picked up.
- Swim Meets:
4 meets, typically 6pm start time. 1 meet a week2023 Meet Dates: Mon 6/12, Mon 6/19, Wed 6/28, Wed 7/5
Prelims: 2 dates (Mon 7/17, Tues 7/18) & Finals: 1 date (Thurs 7/20)
Coach arrives at least 1 hour prior to the start of each meet. Stays until the meet is complete and all children have been picked up.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (Head Coach and Assistant Coach):
- Ability to demonstrate the competitive strokes of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.
- Provide swimmers the opportunity to master technique.
- Lead daily practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with all age groups and swimming abilities.
- Ability to handle and resolve conflicts in a professional, tactful manner.
- Self-starter, reliable, responsible and dedicated.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and easily.
