Responsibilities
The Linear Generator is unlike any other generator technology on the market - it is a system that couples a chemical reaction and thermally driven expansion directly to a linear motor for energy generation and control. This is a complex system to optimize, and one that requires a deep understanding of the physical processes (mechanical dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, etc.) as well as the electrical systems to convert that kinetic energy into electrons (power electronics, control systems, etc.).
The ideal candidate has depth in one or more of these areas, is strongly cross-functional, and brings a systems engineering mindset to optimizing for the lowest cost of energy across not only the product, but also every aspect of deploying the product and connecting it to the grid. Ideally, they also have a good understanding of high-volume manufacturing as well as the energy market, both commercial and industrial.
This person must be an excellent leader who personifies our core values and can grow the team to accomplish our goals. This position reports to the COO, and is expected to be on-site at least 50% of the time.
  • Lead Power Electronics (including LEM electrical design), Controls, Firmware, and Modeling
  • Manage the development systems and processes, product deliverables and roadmap, strategy and goals
  • Own and drive systems engineering across the entire product and field deployment - very cross-functional where electronics meets mechanical cost and thermodynamic performance tradeoffs
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering with significant expertise in power electronics
  • Delivered a power electronics product through the full product cycle from development through manufacturing ramp and large-scale deployment
  • Proven success growing and managing technical teams
  • Designed complex systems that require complex engineering/risk/cost/requirements tradeoffs
  • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment
This position can be hybrid. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.
