The Wound Care RN is in an area of specialty practice that is within a framework of nursing that strives to advance the health care and quality of life of all affected individuals. The Wound Care RN is involved with the physical, emotional and social rehabilitation of patients.

Requirements:

• BSN required within 3 years of hire
• WOCN Certification required within 2 years after completion of BSN (or within 2 years of hire if BSN is already obtained)

General responsibilities:

• Identifies educational/teaching needs through assessment of potential target audience utilizing appropriate methodologies.
• Displays WOCN knowledge in administrative and legislative process as well as current state, federal and local jurisdictional statutes which pertain to his/her area of practice.
• Assess the condition and identifies the needs of each patient, utilizing the following: direct observation, patient and/or responsible person interviews, and the Medical Record.
• Demonstrates competence and knowledge in the assessment, treatment and care of patients from infancy to geriatrics.
• Plans patient care to reflect goals that are realistic, measurable and consistent with the medical plan of care of each patient, to include teaching and discharge planning.
• Implements the nursing and medical plans of care through the delivery of safe and therapeutically effective interventions.
• Educates and evaluates patient progress toward expected outcomes and updates plan of care indicated..
• Supports Department goals and unit activities.
• Compiles with request to perform other duties.
