Job Description

This position is a freelance position, paid on a per-project basis, but the company is actively seeking a full time writer and will be choosing candidates for the full time role from among the freelancers working within this position.

Action Tour Guide is seeking a skilled writer to create content for app-based, GPS-guided tours of destinations across North America and Europe, including national parks, major cities, UNESCO heritage sites, and more. As a Content Developer, you will be assigned popular destinations and given a tour route marked with points of interest. Your task will be to research these points of interest and the location as a whole to craft compelling and informative stories to populate these tours.

Our goal with each tour is to not only inform, but also to tell a story. What sets us apart from our competitors are the overarching narratives, human interest stories, and dramatic retelling of historical events that define our tours. We are NOT looking for dry, lifeless content which reads as if it was generated by ChatGPT or pulled directly from Wikipedia. We ARE looking for writers who understand how stories work at a high level, and who can package informational and educational content inside riveting narratives that will keep the listener on the edge of their seat.

Your Responsibilities

• Creating engaging and informative content in a timely manner
• Researching and gathering information about a destination’s history, culture, attractions, and local customs to craft compelling content
• Adapting writing style to different media, such as web content, blog posts, social media posts, and email newsletters
• Collaborating with internal teams to understand audience needs and preferences
• Working from user feedback to improve content

Experience/Education

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Communications, or a related field
• OR 3-5 years of experience

Payment

As a freelance role, this position pays per tour completed. Most tours pay $650 each, with the exception of very small tours, which pay $400 each. Efficient writers should be able to complete an average-length tour within a week. Payment is only remitted once the tour completes our review process, has been revised by the writer to account for all team feedback, and is approved for narration by the content lead.
