Arts Specialty Area Coordinator (“Create Neighborhood” Coordinator)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Neighborhood Coordinators develop outcomes and strategies for learning at camp. Supervising each individual specialist, or specialty area of programming, their overall responsibilities include hiring staff, supervising staff throughout the summer, developing high quality, creative and age-appropriate lesson plans that reflect the Camp’s values and Neighborhood’s content, submitting lesson plans in a timely fashion to Program Director, and implementing lesson plans.
DUTIES PRE-CAMP:
  • Participate in planning meetings with the program team for 1-2 hours per month starting in January.
  • Support in the hiring of neighborhood specialists.
  • Develop overall neighborhood curricular goals.
  • Develop scope and sequence for neighborhood curriculum (comprised of lesson plan for all activities), and process for specialists to further develop, personalize, scale and implement lesson plans.
  • Plan and lead training for neighborhood specialists.
  • Help plan and lead training for all staff.
  • Work in collaboration with the Camp’s Jewish Educator to build Jewish content into the program.

DUTIES DURING CAMP:
  • Facilitate neighborhood programming with campers.
  • Coach, observe, evaluate and support neighborhood specialists with the implementation of the curriculum.
  • Participate in a weekly Program Team led by Program Director.
  • Run weekly Neighborhood specialists meetings with Neighborhood staff.
  • Facilitate inter and intra-neighborhood collaboration among specialists.
  • Work closely with tribe leaders to determine best practices for specific staff working together and working with campers who require additional support.
  • Manage all aspects related to the purchase of neighborhood supplies within provided budget.
  • Support in the coordination of trips and out-of-camp events for the neighborhood.
  • Provide informal mid-summer and full, written, end-of-summer evaluations of each specialist.
  • Provide a full end-of-summer evaluation of the entire neighborhood program with recommendations for the future.
  • Work closely with tribe leaders to determine best practices for specific staff working together and working with campers who require additional support.
  • Perform any other program or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by the supervisor.

DUTIES SPECIFIC TO CREATE NEIGHBORHOOD:
  • Identify and coordinate with high-quality external partners to enhance Create Neighborhood.
  • Ensure every program includes high-quality take-homes or presentations.
  • Work with neighborhood staff to adapt and beautify spaces (i.e. murals).
  • Develop specific rituals and strategies for incorporating Jewish values across the neighborhood.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience developing an educational curriculum that includes a variety of artistic expressions. Experience with a curriculum that included Jewish content and values, a plus; Experience with supervision of staff.
  • Experience teaching in the arts (visual, dramatic, musical, etc.).
  • Excelling at teamwork and collaboration.
  • Sensitivity and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

COMPENSATION:
  • $6,500 - $7,500

WORK AUTHORIZATION & CLEARANCE:
  • Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Must pass the background check, and other requirements of the Department of Health (DOH).
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

STATUS:
  • Janaury 2023 through May 2023: 2 hours a month for Program Meetings plus curriculum prep time at candidate’s own convenience.
  • Full-time Seasonal Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm June 26 – August 18*, including pre-summer leadership training in April and 40-45 hours of staff training in May and June.
  • During the summer of 2023, Camp Twelve Trails will be closed on July 4th and July 5th.
