Job Summary

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the golf course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course greens, tees, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence. Must possess strong leadership skills, be an excellent communicator and have great attention to detail. Must be a highly motivated professional capable of training and motivating a crew.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages daily course preparations for both member/guest and tournament play.
  • Supervises employees in all phases of course maintenance including mowing, watering, fertilizing and maintaining tees, fairways, greens, roughs and all peripheral golf course areas.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation pump stations, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assists in personnel management, evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and is often responsible for daily work schedules based on professional interpretation.


Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, the establishment and maintenance practices of golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • May require current CO certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • 2 or 4 yr degree or professional degree equivlant in turf management, plant science or other similar agriculturally related degree/field of study
  • Minimum of two seasons/years of golf maintenance experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Basic computer operation: Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred
  • English necessary; any Spanish is helpful but not required


The expected pay range is $52,000 - $62,875. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
