The Rotational Technical Excellence Program (RTEP) is a two-year rotational commitment designed to develop and accelerate the next generation of engineers. In the Desktop Software role (Engineer I), the successful candidate will have responsibility for desktop, mobile, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) software design and development activities on a team focused on supporting customers in a critical Watlow market. These activities will include typical software design activities such as requirements capture, software design, implementation, test plan development, product validation, planning and leading internal design reviews.

This position allows for expansion and growth in UI/UX, product cybersecurity, Industry 4.0 and application development using the Mathworks suite, a 4th generation language.

Following the completion of the program you’ll take the technical and leadership skills gained from the rotation and transition into a non-rotational role.

Your Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Developing design approaches with a systems mindset.
  • Collaboratively designing and developing the desktop, mobile, and UI software for new products within multi-discipline teams that utilize lean product development methods and tools.
  • Planning and participating in regular design reviews.
  • Contributing to development of product and technology roadmaps.
  • Developing products and appropriate tests from system requirements.
  • Supporting desktop, mobile, and UI software engineering needs on existing product.
Qualifications: Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree and related experience, advanced degree in field of specialization, or equivalent experience (5-8 years).
  • Experience in desktop software design on Windows architectures.
  • Experience in desktop software development using Visual Studio.
  • Experience in C#, C++, .NET Framework, Java, and Python.
  • Experience in communications protocols (RS-232, RS485, CAN) and user interface development.
  • Experience in the Agile Scrum software process.
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented architecture and design.
  • Working knowledge of writing and automating software unit tests.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good engineering skills in testing, equipment usage, math, etc.
  • Works closely with team members in developing tests that accurately represent the required use case.
  • Working knowledge of available Applications and Interfaces with current platform offering to meet performance / cost trade-offs for each product / business segment.
  • Ability to understand tradeoffs between performance and constraints.
  • The ability to comprehend product and design ideas and concepts and translate them into functioning prototype products.
  • Demonstrated passion about technology and a desire to continue learning and acquiring deeper knowledge and technical expertise
Additional success factors:
  • UX/UI design experience.
  • Experience in Xamarin.
  • Experience with TFS or Git VCS.
  • Experience with issue tracking systems such as TFS, Jira, or Confluence.
  • Experience in database design and integration.
  • Experience in lean product development.
  • Self-motivated to meet team defined goals.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and problem-solving skills.
