The Environmental Coordinator III serves as a subject matter expert on environmental due diligence and remediation, environmental regulations and compliance, sustainability, environmental management system, Microsoft SharePoint, environmental outreach and education, and related digital and social media. Assists, supports, and provides lead level skill in the identification, management, and compliancy issues of environmental risks for the City and its departments.

Designs, implements, and supports environmental programs related to property redevelopment including environmental due diligence projects, municipal setting designation projects, sites in a TCEQ regulatory cleanup program, and hazardous building material projects in compliance with regulations and established City processes.

Provides, performs, and serves as Lead Auditor for all internal audits of regulatory compliance for City departments; manages EMS, research and preps for audit, completes professional audits, and responds to findings; establish and track audit schedules for departments and communicates findings to agencies, management, and other Committees.

Identifies, determines, and addresses needed areas of change and makes recommendations to improve operations; monitors program success through post-presentation written and telephone evaluations; analyzes operations to identify the need for changes and updates.

Develops, creates, coordinates, and promotes various outreach programs to teach and educate the public and community on stormwater, conservation initiatives, waste management, sustainability, and air pollution programs; provides lead level competency in program development and effective presentation facilitation.

Schedules, promotes and presents outreach programs on and off site for various age groups, businesses, and citizens within the community; instructs, educates, and facilitates programs on lessening human impact on environment; communicates City programs and partners with the community to create collaboration and focus.

Develops strategic planning initiatives and implementation to achieve objectives of the department and ensure the maintenance of regulatory compliance; provides customer service to communicate initiatives and programs, monitor permitting, and assist customers in the resolution of environmentally impactful decisions.

Oversees and leads website and social media content development for the benefit of environmental programs and communications; administers and monitors creation and disbursement of meeting notices, advertisement requests, mailings, and other communications.

Develops, creates, curates, and designs citywide environmental training initiatives and tracks and analyzes the results of these trainings; addresses environmental issues in pollinator collection, food safety, waste management, and water handling.

Provides project management and event planning.

Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
- Knowledge of Environmental Due Diligence, Stormwater, zero waste, Sustainability Conservation Concepts, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Knowledge of environmental site assessments, state regulatory cleanup programs, and hazardous building material assessments and abatement relevant to the principles and practices of public administration and management.
- Knowledge of Federal and State rules, regulations, and standards including ISO 14001.
- Knowledge of auditing principles and practices.
- Knowledge of public outreach, coordination, and interaction.
- Knowledge of project management, permitting specifications, and project schedules.
- Ability to interact with TCEQ, City executives, consultants, and contractors.
- Ability to train, educate, and communicate with citizens and the public; ability to provide training for lower-level staff.
- Ability to develop strategic plans and facilitate implementation of initiatives.
- Ability to develop, evaluate, and coordinate strong website and social media presence.
- Ability to give advice and provide guidance on environmental management standards for various industries.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- For some positions, must obtain a forty (40)-hour HAZWOPER certification within six (6) months of hire. *
- Hiring Department will provide assistance with obtaining license/certificate.
Education
Equivalencies
- A master’s degree in a specified field plus five (5) years required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
