Legal Counsel
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working in conjunction with the Lockton U.S. legal team and the People Services (Human Resources) team, this Legal Counsel position will be a dedicated resource primarily responsible for general legal and transactional business guidance to executive leadership as well as Producers and Associates, which includes offices in Portland, San Francisco, Sonoma, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Diego.
- Provide general legal advice to internal business clients with respect to operational, administrative, and
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with clients, vendors, and other third
agreements, consulting agreements, referral agreements and vendor and technology agreements.
- Ensure contract compliance with regulatory obligations.
- Maintain and monitor compliance policies and procedures and provide related training to internal business
- Collaborate with other in-house attorneys within the U.S. legal team to manage litigation, claims, subpoena
investigations as needed.
- Manage and assist outside counsel (when and as needed) in connection with ongoing litigation.
- Advise internal business clients on best practices to reduce, mitigate, and avoid legal disputes.
- Assist the People Services Department (Human Resources) with legal, employment, and human
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in California
- At least seven to ten years experience as a practicing attorney. Corporate and/or in-house experience is a plus
- Experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial contracts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and PDF editing software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in
- Skilled at navigating complex and difficult scenarios and providing appropriate guidance with discretion and
- Experience with advising, collaborating with and influencing all levels of an organization.
- Strong organizational skills, including project management.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter with the ability to work autonomously with quick deadlines.
- This position requires occasional travel.
- Legally able to work in the U.S.
