The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for ensuring our buildings and offices are clean and in good operating condition, which includes cleaning duties, performing routine maintenance, minor electrical work and repairs, and replenishing supplies. The ideal candidate will be a dependable, hands-on team player with a roll-up their sleeves to get the job done mentality.
This position is based out of our two offices in Hauppauge, Long Island (Suffolk County). The ideal candidate must be available to work Monday through Friday 7:30am - 4pm and have flexibility to come in earlier or work later if needed.
Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety standards and guidelines; under the guidance of the Lead Facilities Technician manage and address all maintenance related requests and emergencies.
- Perform routine maintenance repairs and touch-ups, i.e., hanging pictures/bulletin boards, painting, light bulb replacement, stripping floors and re-waxing, minor electrical repair.
- Maintain building and grounds for a clean, neat, and professional appearance, including snow removal, salting, and sidewalk clearance.
- Maintain appropriate indoor air temperatures, replace air filters when necessary.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues.
- Report maintenance problems or safety hazards/unsafe conditions to the Lead Facilities Technician.
- Assist in troubleshooting and expediting repairs of essential machines and equipment as needed.
- Escort and oversee all outside maintenance vendors performing work on the building.
- Repair, clean, and sanitize refrigerators, kitchen faucets/sinks/counters, and restroom faucets/sinks/urinals/toilets.
- Sweep, mop, dust, garbage and recycling collection and disposal, and window washing in assigned areas throughout Sterling at minimum three times a week.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- 2 plus years relevant work experience required.
- Familiarity and experience working in a commercial building.
- Must be available to work assigned shift and overtime if required as well as being on-call for emergency situations.
- Must be able to follow safety standards, read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals and documents.
- Must use and bring personal tools.
- Must be comfortable climbing ladders and have the ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, stoop, and lift or move heavy equipment.
- Must be a proactive self-starter who follows through and completes assigned tasks.
- Must be a team player, dependable and reliable.
- Good communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical systems a plus
- Knowledge of Spanish preferred but not required
