General Purpose of Job

This position will include the application of principles of physics and engineering for the generation, transmission, and utilization of heat and mechanical power. The engineer will be responsible for taking new concepts and applying engineering principles to develop a product. The engineer, through the new product development process, will be responsible to deliver new designs thru the prototype phase into manufacturing. Work is varied in nature.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Create conceptual designs based on input from customers, marketing, sales, and engineering.
• Ability to facilitate design reviews with an engineering team to review and refine initial concepts.
• Design products or components to meet specific feature requirements and cost targets.
• Estimate concept development-time and part cost.
• Work with the manufacturing team to ensure a smooth transition from engineering prototype into the build process.
• Transfer knowledge & documentation to a technical writer for User Manuals & Assembly Procedures
• Layout production cells with associated tooling for manufacturing of engineering designs
• Create BOMs and release all associated parts
• Provide assistance to Field Service and Manufacturing personnel.
• Work with purchasing team to define initial suppliers
• Work with outside suppliers to source make components
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned subject to reasonable accommodations
• Travel – up to 30% of time

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2-5 years of related experience.

Special Skills/Abilities

• Appropriately applies engineering principles and concepts to area of specialization. Ability to calculate forces, stresses, and thermal conductivity to design or select appropriate components.
• Experience in designing custom products
• Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD tools (Inventor and AutoCAD)
• Experience with formal product development processes involving cross functional teams
• Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with employees, staff, management and customers
• Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects
• Ability to operate within a team atmosphere
• Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure
• Valid Driver’s License
