SALARY: $25 per hour

  • Year 1: $6,616.67
  • Year 2: $13,487.50

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The City of Medford Office of Prevention and Outreach is looking to hire five people to serve as part-time Medford Connectors between the City and under-represented community groups. Specifically, we are looking for community members with strong ties to the Chinese, Haitian, Brazilian, Arab, or Latinx/e communities in Medford. These Medford Connectors will be a critical part of the city’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) project to understand community needs and develop an interconnected resiliency network in the City of Medford.

While this is an effort to make the city more resilient to climate change, Medford understands that it is important to address the needs of the community before, during, and after an emergency event. The City is looking for community members that can work individually and as a team to communicate between the city and residents. Additionally, Medford Connectors will support Medford Connects sites and the city to be more effective and culturally competent in its communications. The Medford Connectors will report to the Medford Board of Health Office of Prevention and Outreach for this effort.

SUPERVISION: Reports to the Manager of the Office of Prevention and Outreach (OPO) with collaborative supervision with the Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be responsive to network partners to support small translations of documents and support event or outreach activities by engaging in primary languages of Medford (Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese) at Medford Connects sites.
  • Consult on the development of outreach from Medford Connects sites.
  • Work closely with the Directors of Health, Planning, Development and Sustainability, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Communications for unified city-wide communications and community outreach
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings with five other Medford Connectors, the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the MVP Grant Project Manager, and the Manager of Prevention and Outreach;
  • Organize and facilitate small community listening sessions;
  • Coordinate and lead quarterly community meetings;
  • Promote events for community engagement;
  • Develop and implement outreach plan;
  • Conduct in-person, print, and digital engagement;
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships in the community.

Please Note:
This position is responsible for their own transportation and transportation costs. This position may require evening work and/or work on weekends depending on community engagement needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years of experience in community organizing and/or advocating.
  • Demonstrated active relationships with the Medford community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to summarize and express concerns and opinions of the community;
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with diverse community members;
  • Ability to facilitate community listening sessions, discussions, and meetings;
  • Self-driven, proactive with the ability to work effectively and independently;
  • Responsible, organized, with excellent attention to detail;
  • Proficiency with networking, zoom, social media, and other outreach methods;
  • Fluent or bilingual proficiency (written and verbal) in English and either Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese (Mandarin).
