MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma/GED Required.

2. Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association within 30 days.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Successful completion of Hospital Patient Care Sitter course prior to working a shift as a patient sitter.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.

2. Receives report from the RN/Charge RN, including any patient specific behaviors to monitor.

3. Courteously greets patients and their visitors, identifies self, and explains purpose utilizing AIDET communication model.

4. Observes and reports to the RN/Charge RN all patient concerns or changes in condition.

5. Promptly calls for assistance as needed.

6. Provides care within trained job responsibilities.

7. Assists patient to restroom and stays with the patient in order to keep the patient safe. Walks patient in corridor as needed.

8. Does not leave patient unless relieved by another staff member.

9. Notifies RN/Charge RN if tubes, IV, catheter, etc. become disconnected.

10. Reports defective equipment to RN/Charge RN.

11. Accompanies the patient to other areas of the hospital for diagnostic tests or upon transfer to other units.

12. Utilizes appropriate patient handling equipment according to patient’s care plan.

13. Transports patient equipment and patient belongings as required with the patient.

14. Maintains a safe orderly and well-equipped environment.

15. Keeps patient room neat and orderly.

16. Evaluates patient’s environment for possible hazards and removes the hazards.

17. Washes hands before and after patient contact and follows personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate.

18. Follows isolation procedures according to the Infection Control Policy.

19. Competently utilizes technology to document as appropriate.

20. Demonstrates understanding of the use of unit technology i.e. call systems, bed controls and TV controls.
