Hegira Health's Police Co-Response programs provide services to individuals in the community experiencing mental health crises. The Police Co-Response Therapist position was developed to serve as a single entry point into a continuum of organized crisis and community based outreach and coordination of care services across Wayne County. These positions are specifically focused on providing immediate Mobile Crisis Co-Response and follow-up with the local police departments in Western Wayne County . The program is focused on preventing future crises and jail diversion for individuals in need and strengthening the law-enforcement/mental health partnership through innovative best-practice models of care.

These positions are embedded in the respective police departments Applicant must be willing to provide services in the community, at public places or people’s homes. Applicant must comply with the Police Department’s background check process in addition to that required by Hegira Health.

Work location is the Romulus, City of Wayne and Van Buren Police Department headquarters.

Hours are Monday through Friday with some flexibility for 4 10 hour days or 5 8 hour days.

POLICE CO-RESPONSE CLINICIAN REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, specializing in psychology, social work, or guidance and counseling.
  • Current Michigan license i.e., LLMSW, LMSW, LLP, LLPC, or LPC.
  • Experience providing direct treatment services to adults and/or adolescents in a behavioral health inpatient or outpatient setting for not less than 18 months.

Position Prerequisites:

  • Demonstrate critical knowledge of diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment approaches as applied to adults and adolescents with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the identification and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of community resources.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance and meet the Employer's minimum driving competency standards.

POLICE CO-RESPONSE CLINICIAN RESPONSIBIITIES (summary of):

  • Provide immediate face-to-face Co-Response with Police Officers to individuals with behavioral health needs in the community.
  • Provide immediate consultation via telephone or video conferencing to Police Officers needing support responding to behavioral health calls for service.
  • Engage with law enforcement and the criminal justice system prior to and during the individual’s behavioral health assessment process.
  • Provide follow-up crisis stabilization services to referrals received from Police Department for residents in need of treatment.
  • Utilize knowledge of the community’s behavioral health services networks to assist individuals in obtaining services that suit his/her medical, psychiatric and social support needs.
  • Complete initial/intake information/assessment/consents and enter into EHR.
  • Develop individual participant Crisis Plan within 24-hours of admission.
  • Inform participants of support and emergency services available.
  • Complete Treatment Plan within 48-hours of admission.
  • Ensure Treatment Plan problem areas, goals, and objectives address the individual’s DSM diagnosis, the precipitating event to the crisis and future prevention, and areas identified on the bio-psychosocial assessment.
  • Complete a Treatment Plan Review(s) as clinically indicated and not less than every 14 days of admission into the program.
  • Formulate criteria for discharge with individual at the time of the development of the treatment plan, including anticipated date for planned discharge.
  • Complete post discharge follow-up to ensure engagement in community behavioral provider services.
  • Complete Discharge Summary within 7-days of discharge date.
  • Complete 3 contacts with individual within first 72 hours of crisis episode.
  • Coordinate appointments with community psychiatrist and other programs/services, as applicable.
