Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Faculty and Scholar Immigration, Program Specialists play an important role throughout the immigration application process in a busy service environment. Program Specialists are members of a team supporting the immigration and employment process at UMD and the corresponding compliance requirements of the university. The positions require a desire to provide excellent customer service, exacting attention to detail and the ability to multitask. Program Specialists help to coordinate and to manage various steps within the immigration application process. They are responsible for implementing the policies of the university during the immigration application process, communicating with all stakeholders in the process as well as assisting with the development and implementation of Faculty/Scholar team training programs for campus. Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in education or related degree required.

Experience:
Two to three years of experience working in an office environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the use of computer software programs and Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Strong knowledge of report writing, researching and a demonstrated proficiency in spreadsheets.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills with strict attention to detail and the ability to think creatively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas orally and in written and visual formats.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States to comply with Federal immigration requirements.

  • Experience living and working in other countries, an understanding of the process of cultural adjustment, and empathy for the immigrant experience.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items, and to walk short distances.
