Senior Research Associate to design, execute and manage research projects in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy in the laboratory of Dr. Mark P. Rubinstein as directed in the OSUCCC Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) in the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Rubinstein laboratory is focused on basic and translational approaches for the immune-based therapies for cancer and other human disease. Ongoing efforts include understanding why immunotherapy works in some patients and fails other patients. Furthermore, ongoing efforts include the development of novel therapeutics to overcome resistance mechanisms limiting current therapeutic approaches. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in contributing to these efforts and also training students and junior laboratory staff.   • collaborates with principal investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies

  • conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments

  • plans and executes advanced molecular and cellular techniques using advanced genetic and immunological technologies to aid the development of immune-based strategies for the treatment of cancer, including single cell sequencing, high dimensional imaging, cloning, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, PCR and flow cytometry

  • collect, sort, and process tissue and blood samples from cancer patients

  • records and consolidates research data

  • collaborates with principal investigator to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other document

  • research current scientific literature on specified topics

  • oversee instruction of research assistants, undergraduate, and graduate students in laboratory procedures and operation of equipment

  • calibrate various laboratory equipment and operate microscopes, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment


Education/Experience:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required, Doctoral degree preferred.

  • Requires 4 years of relevant experience in a biological/health research capacity, 5+ years preferred.

  • Knowledge of genetic and immunological technologies, single cell sequencing, high dimensional imaging, cloning, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, PCR and flow cytometry highly desired.

  • Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
