JOB SUMMARY

The primary objective of the Teacher is to provide quality child care, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for children at the Oak Academy Center. The Teacher enhances the children’s physical, emotional, and mental development through methods and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with and clearly communicates to children, parents, volunteers, and co-workers to ensure and enhance a professional and effective program. Answers/ addresses parents’ questions and concerns.
• Prepares and executes daily lesson plans designed for specific age groups that stimulate and enhance growth socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. Handles paperwork and prepares materials.
• Closely interacts with children managing internal/external activities including field trips, nurturing appropriate growth and development. Supervises children addressing any safety issues, ensuring a safe environment.
• Maintains childcare areas so they are neat and orderly; performs clean-up and set-up activities as requested; conducts light cleaning, sanitizing, laundry and food service duties.
• Participates in Child Care Center meetings; contributes ideas/suggestions to enhance department programs and activities.
• Implements infectious control guidelines and emergency procedures as necessary.
• Keeps current on educational trends in preschool/day care; utilizes and employs care center teaching resources that enhance the learning environment.
• Ensures proper hygiene habits of the children, addressing with children and parents as needed.
• Maintains records of children entrusted to teacher’s care (i.e. meal count, phone numbers, authorized persons for pick-up, etc.)
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with minimum of 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; CPR and First-Aid training certification; mandatory reporting training required; child development training and knowledge of Iowa State Day Care Law preferred.

• Conflict Resolution Skills: Ability to deescalate or eliminate contentiousness with individuals, among team members or other parties using conciliatory tactics such as negotiation and mediation to reach mutual agreement; able to effectively confront people and issues head on, bringing forth resolution
• Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
