Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Music beginning in the fall of 2023, with the potential of renewal for a second year.

BSC is committed to finding a teacher/scholar whose specialty is in teaching undergraduate theory, music history and music appreciation. Other specialty areas may be considered as needed. The College offers the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Musical Arts degrees for its majors, and students majoring in Musical Theatre take music theory courses as part of their requirements.

Commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in the liberal arts tradition is essential. Teaching load is 3-1-3, including a non-traditional January term project of the professor’s own creation. A terminal degree is required, and eligible candidates must have received the terminal degree or be ABD by the time of employment. All faculty members are expected to participate fully in the life of the department and College.

Birmingham-Southern College is a residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 800 undergraduate students. BSC is included in Pope’s Colleges that Change Lives and is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa. The College recently endured a funding crisis and is in the process of rebuilding the faculty and staff. BSC has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1936 and is home to the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society.
