Williams College is pleased to announce an opening for our Science Coordinator position in the Center for Learning in Action (CLiA). This is a fully benefitted, part-time (24 hours/week), academic year (10 months), regular appointment.
The Science Coordinator manages the Williamstown Elementary School (WES) Science Lab and runs the Science Fellows and After School Tutoring programs. The position assists in creating opportunities for Williams College students to participate in meaningful community engagement and experiential education opportunities at WES. Serving as an integral component of CLiA’s local education outreach, the Coordinator oversees programs, pilots, projects, and initiatives liaising with Williams’ faculty, staff, student groups, and individual students seeking partnership opportunities with Williamstown Elementary School.
The Coordinator utilizes targeted outreach to recruit diverse undergraduates to participate in volunteer and paid programs. Additionally, communication skills are critical across various constituencies, including WES staff, the elementary student body, the larger community, and Williams, to navigate support of WES Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging goals, especially as those goals intersect with Williams’ partnership and DEI efforts.
- Coordinate WES Science Lab and Science Fellow undergraduate program, including curriculum planning, leading 8+ hands-on lessons a week, modeling instruction for undergraduates, and mentoring undergraduate teaching
- Coordinate After School Tutoring undergraduate program, including recruiting, scheduling, and observing
- Advise undergraduate student leaders in program areas of communication, recruitment, training, and evaluation with their peers
- Communicate, collaborate, and strategize with Williamstown Elementary School administration, classroom teachers, and student leaders to refine and ensure the success of programs
- Liaise with Williams students, faculty, and staff who seek to engage in outreach with WES
- Bachelor’s plus at least two years teaching experience with K-6 children required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience leading groups of K-12 students or undergraduates, directing and observing participation and growth in learning
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff
- Flexibility and creativity in curriculum creation and implementation
- Ability to travel to schools, transport supplies, and supervise K-6 students in a classroom environment
Application review will begin on April 18, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is from $30,000 to $36,000, commensurate with experience. Job band 3-B.
