Small trucking company seeking an experienced Safety Director. The ideal candidates’ day-to-day would include directing the transportation safety management process and providing overall support and guidance to the transportation organization.
The Safety Director introduces and oversees systems and activities to maintain oversight of regulatory compliance status; provides training and professional development for management and CMV operators; coordinates and manages the crash management process; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety management process; and monitors metrics and indices reflecting performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a comprehensive safety manual to be distributed to drivers.
- Maintain safety DQ files and records.
- Implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including FMCSA and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Monitoring CSA Basic Scores to address trends and drive performance.
➤Provide management with CSA basic scores & reports.
➤Oversee and monitor roadside inspection process reports.
➤Maintain roadside inspection documentation.
➤Coach field management on roadside inspection issues
- Participate in new driver orientation and on-boarding processes.
➤Monitoring driver qualification files and the hiring and selection process
➤Assuring DOT drug / alcohol program is compliant with regulations.
➤Assure in vehicle driver training is completed with every active driver.
➤Assure vehicle inspection hands on training is completed with every active driver.
- Reviewing hours of service records for accuracy and addressing any issues accordingly.
- Work with maintenance vendors to assure PM compliance and demand maintenance are compliant.
- Develop and lead monthly training courses for drivers.
- Monitor all compliance items including physicals, licenses, random drug screens, annual reviews, hours of service regulations to ensure adherence at every operation.
- Handle accidents, insurance claims and audits.
➤Perform accident investigation training to all levels of the Organization.
➢Review accident file contents for accuracy and documents needed.
➢Gatekeeper for accident preventable decisions.
➢Assure proper accountability is delivered for preventable accidents.
➤Conduct DOT compliance audits at regulated sites, etc.
- File IFTA, overweight, and other permits.
- Assist management on projects as needed.
- Assist drivers with ELD issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, or related field
- Current and valid driver's license (CDL Preferred, Not Required)
Experience:
- 10+ years transportation management and/ or safety management experience
Professional Skills:
- Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
- Intermediate knowledge of Analytical Tools (Hyperion, Data Mining/Reporting) and other logistics software.
- Working knowledge of the performance management/monitoring systems.
- Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OSHA standards,
Hazardous Materials Regulations, Drug & Alcohol Regulations (including Parts 40, 199, &
382), and other Regulatory Guidance.
- Working knowledge of Fleet Management Software.
➤PeopleNet is preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) rules and regulations.
- Analysis and identification of risk trends, problems and solutions.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face- to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others.
- Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale.
- Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others including the ability to provide development experiences and network opportunities, advise, and teach to prepare others for effective job performance.
- Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.
- Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance metrics.
- Ability to lead and influence in a matrix organization.
- Ability to plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety celebrations.
- Bilingual is a plus but not required.
Working Conditions:
- Office Environment.
- Shift is Mon-Fri 0800 – 1700
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
