JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN
DEPARTMENT: SERVICE DEPARTMENT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: WORKING FOREMAN
STATUS: FULL TIME, NON-EXEMPT, BARGAINING UNIT
COMPENSATION: $22.44/Hour
WORK WEEK: Tuesday through Thursday, 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SUMMARY Provides custodial services in various City buildings and may work rotating shifts. Accountable for maintaining professionally cleaned City buildings to high cleanliness standards in all offices, restrooms, and building areas.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and vacuums rugs and carpets in the facility offices and rooms
Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, and other equipment
Polishes desktops and other furniture
Picks up paper and other refuse on floors and sweeps hallways and entranceways.
Restrooms - Washes, scrub, & disinfects rest rooms, scrubs floor, shines mirrors and faucets, cleans sinks and toilets
Kitchens - wipes counter tops, shines sink, scrubs floor, cleans refrigerators and microwave weekly, cleans stoves, cleans waste containers, pick up refuse on floor, counter, tables
Regular attendance and compliance with scheduled work hours
Cleans windows, door panels and drinking fountains in all areas
Cleans and polishes any metal work
Empties and cleans waste containers and shredder containers in every room
Assists in moving and/or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment
Maintains equipment used in the course of work
Informs supervisor of supplies, tools and equipment needed for cleaning
Performs special custodial work upon request of staff with supervisor's approval
Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards to supervisor
Responsible for locking doors and windows, turning out lights and securing building as assigned
Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy in all phases of work
Effectively and respectfully communicates with staff, the public and other employees
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. High School diploma or general education degree (GED),
Minimum of three years of custodial experience
Strong knowledge of safe, efficient cleaning practices for public buildings
Must be highly reliable, organized, and responsible
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver"s license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors and correct them in a positive and appropriate manner.
All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste and smell. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
